LLANGANUCO - SANTA CRUZ
TLLSCHZ

 

This is one of the classic circuits that circle the highest mountain in the National Park - Huascaran 6768m. Easy access and comfortable campsites make this hike attractive for all trekkers. We cross passes between 4500m and 4750m. Hiking through the "Quenual" (typical Andean shrub) while in deep canyons, green and turquoise lagoons reflect the sparkling glaciers. We pass through villages, where the peasants attempt to harvest their crops and kids enjoy playing with their animals.




Itinerary

Day One: HUARAZ –LLANGANUCO –VAQUERIA -PARIA

Pick up from your Hotel and a 3-Hour drive along the Callejon de Huaylas, passing through Carhuas and Yungay, where we leave the paved road towards the National Park Huascaran. After the Park Control, we stop to enjoy the views at the firs Llanganuco lake, then the trip continues to the Portachuelo pass at 4750m. the views of Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Chacraraju are stunning. After the photos, continue to Vaqueria where you will meet the pack animals and their drivers, after loading up, the hike starts to Colcabamba and then to the Huaripampa valley. Camp in Paria. (3 hrs hike - Camp at 3800m)

Day Two: PARIA - TAULLIPAMPA

Today, after breakfast, the hike continue towards the pass called Punta Union at 4750m. A 2 to 3 hour climb to reach this pass from where you can enjoy the views of Taullraju, Artesonraju, Quitaraju and the lake Jatuncocha at the valley. After lunch at the pass, the descend to the campsite is an easy walk, Taullipampa a perfect spott overlooked by Mount Taulliraju. (5hr trek - Camp at 4200m)

Day Three: TAULLIPAMPA - LLAMAC-CORRAL

This morning after breakfast, you will be hiking towards the Alpamayo base camp, in the valley called Arhuyacocha. A nice hike at the foot of the most popular mountain among climbers in the region. Then we descend towards the Santa Cruz Valley traversing Forests of “Quenual” trees (typical Andean vegetation). The campsite is in Llamac Corral. (6hr trek - Camp at 3800m).

Day Four: LLAMAC CORRAL – CASHAPAMPA - HUARAZ

Continuing through the Santa Cruz Valley we reach the town of Cashapampa, where we will have our last lunch with our mule drivers and say good-bye. Then we meet our transportation that will take us back to Huaraz. Transfer to your hotel. (4hr trek, 3 hr bus ride).
