URUBAMBA CUNCANI LARES VALLEY TREK
TLARE
This is a beautiful trek through the snowcapped mountains of the Andes,
where many Quechua villages are situated. The Indians of these valleys,
who still live in the traditional way, are known for their weaving
skills, with each village incorporating its distinct motifs into
their work.
Our hike starts in Urubambaand follows the path through the Pumahuanca valley, reaching passes above 4000m we arrive to Cuncani and following the trails we arrive to Yanahuara.
This easy trek allows us to interact with the local people.
Our camping equipment and backpacks are carried by llamas and horses.
Itinerary
Day 1 URUBAMBA – PUMAHUANCA VALLEY PACHASCHIOK
The hike starts above the Urubamba city, you will also meet the local horse-drivers and they will take care of packing their horses while you start the hike with your guide. The valley is well populated and rich at the lower parts, but as soon as you get within the secondary narrow valley the exuberant vegetation, sort of rain forest humid area, you can enjoy seeing the abundant bird life. After a few kilometers you will be gaining altitude and the ambiance changes to Puna surroundings, less vegetation and some typical Andean shrubs called polylepis (quenuales), which grow comfortable above 12000ft. Camp at 13530ft, in comfortable tents. All meals included. Night in Tents. (5hr trek)

Day 2 PACHASCHIOK – CUNCANI (12540ft)
Your breakfast will be ready and warm in the dining tent, after breaking camp, you will continue your ascend to the highest point of the trek today, Paso Pumahuanccajasa, stunning views of the Cordillera Urubamba, and the lakes below, you will then continue the hike descending an easy path to Cuncani, our head cook is original from this village, you will enjoy company of his family and local people this evening. Our campsite is located near the village. (6hr trek)

Day 3 CUNCANI – MILLPO LAKE (138850ft)
After saying good-bye to the new friends in Cuncani, you will quickly start ascending the mountains to reach the upper part of the valley, you will be meeting certainly some farmers with their alpaca herds, and they will show you some of their handicrafts, alpaca wool blankets, and hats, it is ok to bargain, bring some Peruvian soles with you; always in small notes or many coins. You will be reaching the upper part of the Huacawasi valley, you will be at today’s pass before noon, Huancahuasjasa, 15345ft, and again you will be facing the Sacred Valley of the Incas. A very well market path lead you to the lakes lower and soon you will be in the campsite by the Millpo Lake. Last night to enjoy in the campsite the silence and remoteness of the place, (6hr trek)

Day 4 MILLPO LAKE – YANAHUARA – OLLANTAYTAMBO – (6600ft)
Last day of hiking, after breaking the camp up, the path to follow is all the way downhill. You will have an easy day hike to the Yanahuara valley, a lot warmer as you descend towards the vehicle, then you will say good-bye to your horse drivers and will be transferred to Ollantaytambo, where you will have a guided tour of the archaeological site. (3hr trek)
