You hike through the Quenual typical Andean shrub), while in deep canyons, where green and turquoise lagoons reflect the sparkling glaciers. The ruins at Chavin de Huantar consist of a large main square which has a staircase leading into the "Castillo". This is a three-storey, 13 metre high building which houses many chambers and tunnels - many of them underground. There are no windows or doors (other than the main entrance) but the whole complex was so well-designed that there is virtually no mustiness. A 4 metre high stone dagger can be found in the heart of the building.
