Our group used Aventura Quechua for a custom climbing and trekking trip of 11 days through the Vilcanota Range. Carlos and his crew covered every detail without fail. He handled everything from airport pick-up and Machu Picchu tickets to all of the logistics or a trek from Tinqui through to Pitumarca. Our cook, Domingo, surpassed the skill of all prior cooks we've hired over the course of 6 prior trips to the Andes. Arrieros Leo and Rocque covered every pack train need and many more tasks that just made the trip come together. Driver and facilitator John covered road transportation and miscellaneous needs on time, on route, and without a hitch, every time.
Simply said, Carlos and his crew met every logistical need and constructed a smooth custom trip, from airport pick-up to airport drop-off. I recommend him without reservation. For additional details as to our experience with Aventura Quechua please see the peru 2011 narrative at www.climbingwithbob.com.
Extraordinary experience for five days, exploring the main sites along the Colca Canyon, Callali, the Canocota gorge, Chivay, Yanque, the geyser near Pinchollo, Cabanoconde and especially the trek to the Colca Canyon, to enjoy the hot springs, and having the Condors flying around "La Cruz del Condor", will make this journey a highlight in your visit to Peru
Early departure from Arequipa, taking the road to Yura, through the National Reserve Pampa Vicuñas Cañahuas, then follow the old route to Cuzco (Pulpera Road) to reach the "La Ventana del Colca", located 4300m, from here you can see the beginning of the Valley. On the descent you will visit the "Mollepunko Shelters" paintings and reliefs dated 8,000 years. Continuing the trip, you will see the imposing "castles" of Callali, which are natural formations, form the rain and wind erosion, you will also visit the village. Then, continue towards Chivay, passing through traditional villages as Tuti, Sibayo. You will be reaching Canocota, where you will have a box lunch before starting the trek. From Canocota you will be trekking for about two hours, passing through the small cannon of Canocota and walking alongside the river, completing the trek in the Colca Valley, in the hot springs of La Calera, a variety of pools with water exceeding 50 degrees celcious. The rest of the afternoon, you will have free time for personal activities, and diner
After breakfast at the hotel, the journey continues for a short while on the road leading to Cruz del Condor, we reach Pinchollo, where you can start the trek or take our horses and head to the slopes of Nevado Hualca Hualca, to appreciate the Pinchollo Geiser and around the area you will find many natural steam vents, the locals call the place "the Little Hell". After some time over there you will take the way back to return to Pinchollo to find again our transport, after some refreshments, you will be heading to Cabanaconde, through the Cruz del Condor, this will be our first chance to see the condors, and the viewpoint of Tapay, where it is possible to see the village tucked away on the opposite wall in the canyon, Tapay can only be reached on foot. Later on you will arrive to Cabanaconde, time for a nice shower and dinner.
Expedition into the canyon, starting early in the morning in Cabanaconde, you will start the descend before sun rises, with the company of some pack animals for our backpacks and food for the next 2 days, pass through different towns and Tapay, Cosñirwa, Malata, Oasis (where the hot springs) are located, we will spend the night in tents.
Today the possibility to trek to the Huayruro cataract, very early in the morning or to continue through Llatica, and Llahuar to enjoy the hot springs by the side of the Colca river end up in Cabanaconde after two days of intense contact with nature and go for pre-Inca trails leaving us wondering and admiring the strength and skill of the ancient inhabitants.
An early start for breakfast in Llahuar, then the short hike to Soro to reach our transportation to Cabanaconde, after some rest you will continue to Cruz del Condor, located 10 km to appreciate the depth of the canyon, and the height of the mountain "The Bomboya". Later, you will go back to Chivay, along the way you will have time to appreciate the different viewpoints and churches typical of the Colca Valley. Ten kilometers before Chivay, a stop in Yanque, main square and maybe its thermal baths where you can cool off. After lunch in Chivay you will continue the journey back to the city of Arequipa on the Patapampa road.
